One person wants to learn to stand up. Another already surfs and wants help staying in the wave. Someone else has been watching all summer and is finally ready to try. A group wakesurf session works best when the coach knows those goals before you arrive.
Big Thunder Wake Experience offers coached wakesurf and wake foil experiences at Lake of the Ozarks. Our listed season runs May through September, so October is a good time to start planning a session for next season and ask about booking dates.
Tell us who wants to ride
Start with your group size and the riders’ experience levels. Let us know who is new, who has tried it before and who has a specific goal. Confirm the current session capacity and available format with the team.
A mixed group does not have to arrive with the same skills. What helps is a realistic plan for the available time and an understanding of how the session will be organized. Ask those questions early so everyone knows what they are signing up for.
Choose a goal for each rider
For a first-time rider, the goal may be getting comfortable with the start and finding balance. A returning rider might want to work on positioning or reduce reliance on the rope. Share that with the coach instead of treating every turn as the same lesson.
Progress looks different for each person. Leave room for instruction and adjustments rather than setting a deadline for a particular skill. The session is a chance to get useful feedback while enjoying time on the water.
Decide what you want to try
Our wake surf and foil experience includes professional coaching and equipment. If your group is interested in wake foiling as well as surfing, mention it when planning. Ask how those options fit the session you are considering.
E-foiling is a separate experience using an electric hydrofoil board. If that is what someone has in mind, clarify it before booking so the group chooses the right activity. The names can sound similar, but the setups are different.
Plan the session around your lake trip
Choose a day with enough room for arrival and instructions. Review the team’s current booking information, rider requirements and weather arrangements before confirming. If you are planning months ahead, ask when the next season’s dates will become available.
