Maybe you said you'd try wakesurfing this summer and never picked a day. Maybe you got up once and have been thinking about it ever since. Either way, the end of August is a good reminder to make the plan.
You don't need a big occasion. A little time on the water and something new to work on are good enough reasons to come ride.
Bring the goal you actually have
"I want to stand up" is a perfectly good goal. So is feeling more comfortable on the board, building a longer ride, or figuring out why you keep losing the wave.
Tell your coach where you are now and what you'd like to improve. It gives the session a starting point without turning your lake day into a test. You're there to learn, and progress doesn't look the same for every rider.
Make it a plan your group can enjoy
If friends or family are joining you, talk about who wants to ride before booking. One person may be brand new while another already has a few seasons behind them. Let the team know so they can help you choose an appropriate session.
There's plenty to enjoy in cheering each other on, too. Just leave the coaching to the coach. A boat full of people shouting different instructions usually makes things harder.
Give yourself enough time
Tell us how many people hope to participate and ask what session length makes sense. More riders means sharing the available riding time. A realistic plan is better than trying to hurry everyone through their turn.
Leave a little breathing room around the booking as well. Arriving rushed, finding your towel, and trying to answer work messages isn't the easiest way to start something new.
Plan for the day you get
Check the forecast, bring sun protection and a towel, and ask about anything you're unsure of before arriving. September dates don't guarantee a certain water temperature or calm conditions. The team can explain how weather affects your session.
Most of all, come ready to enjoy the process. A ride doesn't have to end with a new trick to be worth the trip. Sometimes the win is simply getting more comfortable than you were last time.
Frequently asked questions
Can I book if I'm a beginner? Yes. Big Thunder Wake Experience welcomes beginners as well as returning riders.
What if everyone is at a different level? Tell the team when you book. Coaching can address different goals, and the team can help plan time for your group.
